Vision Service Plan (VSP) and EyeMed

Columbus Ophthalmology Associates participates in vision care insurance plans from both VSP and EyeMed. Please determine if you have coverage with either VSP or EyeMed before your appointment. We can only files claims with VSP and EyeMed if we are notified you have plan coverage prior to seeing our physician.

Vision care insurance covers routine eye exams. A routine eye exam is to check your vision to determine if you are myopic (nearsighted) or hyperopic (farsighted) and if you need new eyeglasses or a change in your current eyeglasses. Some plans also offer discounts for contact lenses and eyeglasses. Vision care insurance does not include coverage for medical eye exams to diagnose and treat eye disease and medical conditions.

We are happy to schedule you for routine eye exam. As long as we have any details about VSP or EyeMed coverage prior to seeing our physician, we will file this claim with EyeMed or VSP.

If we uncover any pathology or medical conditions, such as, but not limited to, cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration or diabetes, during this routine exam, these types of conditions are covered under your health insurance. This exam will then be billed your medical insurance. Vision care insurance plans do not cover the testing necessary to appropriately assess and outline a plan of treatment for any eye disease or condition.
