Born and raised in the Chicago suburbs, Dr. Swarupa “Rupa” Kancherla has been interested in ophthalmology from a young age. She received her medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine. After graduating, she completed her residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and her Cornea, External Disease, and Refractive Surgery Fellowship at Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute.
An accomplished surgeon, Dr. Kancherla has lectured throughout the country and presented at international meetings hosted by organizations like the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. She has also authored publications in multiple peer-reviewed journals, including Cornea and Ophthalmology. Dedicated to providing excellent patient care, her specialties include cataracts, corneal transplantation, refractive surgery, and the clinical management of dry eye disease.
Recently, she and her husband, Akash, became proud parents and welcomed their son, Avi. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, exercising, cooking, and traveling.
