Community Projects
Vision and Glaucoma Screenings
The Foundation provides vision screenings through Central Ohio, including retirement centers, churches and schools.Preschool screenings will detect amblyopia or lazy eye which can then be treated to prevent loss of vision. Because glaucoma has no symptoms, screenings have uncovered thousands of patients who need treatment.Cataract and macular degeneration are disorders that primarily effect the elderly population.Such patients often have difficulty finding transportation.By bringing the foundation staff into their living environment, early changes in vision can be identified and appropriately treated.
Education Programs
The COA Foundation distributes information on eye disease to the public and fellow eye care professionals.Furthermore, the foundation is involved in prevention of eye injury by conducting programs for industry and athletes on the importance of safety eyewear. In addition, the foundation supports an ongoing in-office training program where community doctors can follow our physicians and staff during daily rounds.Other programs include training in the operating room for surgeons and allied healthcare professionals.
Research Activities
Our Board Members have advanced the field of Ophthalmology through participation in important clinical studies such as:
- Investigation of new intraocular lenses that improve the quality of cataract surgery.
- Evaluation of new medications and laser treatment for glaucoma.
- The treatment of severe dry eye syndrome.
